Traditional as well as architectural custom blacksmith work in Muskoka
The story behind Stoneridge Iron Works and its traditional as well as architectural custom blacksmith work is simply a dream come true for owner Alex Otto.
Alex was born in Toronto and moved when he was ten years old to Germany.
His passion began in 1984, when he started an apprenticeship under master
blacksmith Franz Hausmann in southern Germany and after his three year
apprenticeship he graduated successfully.
For the coming years he worked his way up to become a journey man blacksmith.
Alex was able to improve his skills and combined the traditional with a
modern breeze that made his work very unique and well known in
the region. At the age of only twenty three he worked in supervisory
positions for several metal fabrication companies. He is proud that he
has trained eight new apprentice blacksmiths over the past twentyfive
years.
In 2006 Alex and his family moved back to Canada. He started out in British Columbia where he worked for Reimer & Co. While there he was honoured to work on two public art projects with the Reimer team and one season as the head blacksmith in the heritage Town of Fort Steel. In 2009 the Otto family moved back to Ontario (what he likes to say ... finally back home).
Opening up Stoneridge Iron Works is like a dream come true for Alex and he is proud to serve and share his blacksmith work in the Muskoka area.
